Fiction for the Week

After years of gentle nudging by Wertz and Sean, I finally got around to reading a few Flannery O’Connor stories. This weekend I read all the stories posted by the Georgia College & State University and all but two posted at Short Story Classics. My only regret is having waited so long to start reading her work. Hauntingly evil and leaves me looking forward to more. If nothing else, beachcombers, read ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find.’ You’ll love the ending. I promise.

I have a collection of her short stories laying around somewhere. There are some great ones. Wiseblood is a strange one. It’s been a while since I read her stuff, isn’t “the lame shall enter first” her as well?

I devoured all of her writings when I was like 20 yrs old. I can’t recall the names or exact stories but I do remember enjoying them. So I should try reading them again, thing is I will then instantly remember every detail once I start. I was never one to re-read books.

Have you read any Sue Monk Kidd? She is also a Georgian female writer. I only read “The Secret Life of Bees” but I did enjoy it.

nemov, yes she did write Wiseblood, but I’ve not gotten to that yet. Being supercheap, I tend to get most of my reading from free online sources. I suppose a library would resolve this.

bucket, no I’ve not read any Sue Monk Kidd. I just looked her up and see she’s a modern writer. I honestly don’t read many new writers. But again, this is mostly because I am supercheap. I really gotta get my ass to the library.
