Pop-up Donut

The following is a copy of correspondence I sent to KrispyKreme.com today.

To Whom It May Concern:

Until today, I have been a long time subscriber to the KrispyKreme.com e-newsletter.

The reason I have cancelled my subscription is because KrispyKreme.com has chosen to use spyware in its promotional offers. Specifically, your email offer from today, February 24, 2006, for “One Free Creamy Caramel Doughnut” instructs users to follow a link to get the redeeming coupon.

However, instead of simply obtaining a printable coupon, users are directed to install “Coolsavings” from coolsavings.com. Spyware watch company, spywaredb.com, describes your affiliate, coolsavings.com as “Spyware. You should remove it from your system as soon as possible. ”

KrispyKreme.com has chosen to partner with an extremely shady business. Because of your affiliation with coolsavings.com, I will no longer do business with KrispyKreme.com. I encourage KrispyKreme.com to reconsider the use of spyware to promote its products.

I just sent them a nasty email letting them know that I have, sadly, eaten my last Krispy Kreme donut ever. I may have been lying.

You may have noted that I was very specific to say that I will no longer do business with ‘KrispyKreme.com’. A cold chill will blow through hell before I avoid that glowing ‘Hot Now’ sign.
