More meme fun…
I haven’t had much to say lately so these memes are good filler until I do. I got the following off of Cyan/Wertz/Eeyore and just about everyone else I know at livejournal…
YOUR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL
~What year was it?
1994
~What were your three favorite bands?
They Might Be Giants, Violent Femmes, & The Smiths
~What was your favorite outfit?
I have no clue. The general style was one third-goth, one third-intellectual/prep, and one third-whatever I picked up from the thrift store.
~What was up with your hair?
I thought it was 1939? Very short & curly.
~Who were your best friends?
Mandi, Janet & Sherri
~What did you do after school?
Went to Mandi’s & watched movies.
~Did you take the bus?
Not my senior year. I did drive our family van, though, and that was nearly the size of a bus - at least a short bus.
~Who did you have a crush on?
The Swede. His first name was Jerry, I think… I don’t remember his last name at all but I know it was Swedish, which is why we girls code named him The Swede.
~Did you fight with your parents?
Hardly. They were too busy fighting with each other.
~Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Michael J. Fox. I’ve adored him since Family Ties.
~Did you smoke cigarettes?
I had the occasional clove. Part of the one-third goth thing.
~Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
Nervous? No. But I was stuck to lug most of my books around. My school was WAY too big/overpopulated and the students moved like cattle being herded through the halls. My locker was in an obscure upstairs corner of the building and all my classes were downstairs. I got screwed.
~Did you have a ‘clique’?
That is such a hollywood term. It seems so exclusive and competitive. My circle of friends were neither.
~Did you have “The Max” like Zach Kelly and Slater?
Ok, I admit I googled this. The Max, apparently, is a regular hangout. In this case, The Max was a restaurant. We went to Taco Bell a lot. Does that count?
~Admit it, were you popular?
That wouldn’t be an admission. It would a lie.
~Who did you want to be just like?
I had no ambitions. I just wanted to get the hell out of my parents’ house.
~What did you want to be when you grew up?
A college professor or a librarian.
~Where did you think you’d be at the age you are now?
Working at some college or archive, chin high in old musty books. I hadn’t anticipated how much influence the internet would have on me in subsequent years.
When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school
It’s a wonder I can think at all -Paul Simon

Do you remember the dead frog necklace? Now that was a fashion statement!

OMG - total blast from the past!
For those of you not in the know, Gina is an old friend of mine and is referring to a homemade necklace I made purely for shock value back in high school.
I had a basement bedroom with those small half windows at the ceiling and window wells on the outside. Well, a frog, more likely a toad, fell into the window-well and died there. By the time I found it, the flesh had rotted away leaving a perfect skeleton intact. I took it upon myself to coat the skeleton with glue and clear nailpolish, strung a chain through the eye sockets, and I had a VERY goth necklace. It even grossed out the other goth chics. THAT meant cool.
Thanks for stopping by, Gina!
