Well, the Gull Reef Club is coming along slowly. If you know anything about the inspiration behind the name, it only makes sense. For those of you not in my head, the name comes from one of my favorite books of all time, Herman Wouk’s Don’t Stop the Carnival. It’s a great comedy about a man who ups and leaves his successful life in NYC to start over as a resort owner on a tropical island. Once on the island, the man soon learns the grass is not always greener lesson. The name of the resort the man buys in the novel is The Gull Reef Club. So, welcome to my screwed up little paradise.

For dinner was sloppy joes and potato chips. Stupid buy one get one free on the big bag of chips from two weeks ago and we are still stuck eating them. Better than turkey at this point, though. :D

Under Construction

Unless you’re surfing this journal by a webreader for the blind, you’ll have noticed some changes. After many months, I’ve finally settled on a name for this online shindig. I’m also working to modify the look to match. Time for dinner now (pancakes and bacon and orange juice…anything but turkey!). I’ll catch you all up soon. In the meantime, the Gull Reef Club is under construction. Relax and have a glass of champaign on the house… Cheers!

Last night was Captain D’s. Mike a/k/a “Deal King” had a coupon. :P

I think I’m going to have to suspend my dinner updates until at least Sunday. We’re having Wertz up for the holiday & I won’t be spending as much time on the computer as usual.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving everyone!

Ok, so this writing everyday thing obviously needs practice.

Last night: Grilled cheese, clam chowder & half-way homemade pumpkin pie with cool whip. I say half-way because we had a can of pre-ingrediented (is that a word?) pumpkin mix that only needed to be mixed with a can of evaporated milk, poured into a premade crust and baked. See? Half-way.

Tonight’s I’ve not had but am baking it now. It will be a repeat of the other night, chicken patties in a bun (there ya go, Titus) and tater-tots. We’re outta cheese sticks. We do have leftover pie, though. Mmmm…pie…

Last night’s “dinner” (if it can even be called that) consisted of peanut butter & saltines, some blueberry yogurt, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, and some sourdough pretzels. Went out to see friends & never really did stop for a real meal. Oh well. I’m certain I will make up for this on Thursday.

Funny dream from the other night…maybe disturbing…

I dreamt that the U.S. Congress had decided that they were going to “redistrict” the United States. While they were redrawing the states’ boundaries all non-essential citizens were assigned to go to either Canada or Mexico (like they would even have us!). I recall being very pissed off, not because our Congress was arbitrarily remapping the U.S., but because Mike and I were being sent to Canada instead of Mexico.

Chicken patty on a bun, mozzarella cheese sticks and tater tots. Snore…

What’s for dinner?

I think I’m going to try to start recording what I have for dinner. I know that will come as such a such a delight to my thousands of readers < /sarcasm >. I’m not worried about weight or health or anything. It’s mostly just for the record and the fact that it helps with writing discipline (something on which I need to focus).

Last night we had english muffin pizzas. Tonight we are using most of the leftover ingredients, plus the leftovers from Tuesday night, to make Italian Combos. The only place I’ve seen these sold are in and around the Chicagoland area. The consist of Italian sausage & sliced roast beef on a bun with onions, peppers, marinara sauce and a bit of mozzerella cheese. We are also having potato chips with our sandwhiches. To drink, I will have water and soda (assume those are the drinks every night unless I say otherwise).

A REAL Mission Accomplished

I’m so excited! For the first time EVER in my life, I am DONE with Christmas shopping early. I am overjoyed by this. I normally despise Christmas. I hate the stress of last minute purchases, the stress of trying to figure out what someone would like and the throng crowds in the stores. But Mike and I have managed to successfully avoid all of that. MUCH of the credit has to go to Mike for finding killer, and time-barred, deals that forced us to get rolling earlier than we normally would.

I may actually decorate the house for Christmas this year. I don’t think I’ll mind all the lights, tinsel, and pine incense (just keep the animated Santas away from me. I don’t care how happy I am about Christmas – there is no way I will ever like those creepy things). I know this makes Mike really happy, too. I tend to get him down this time of year with my incessant bitching about the holiday season. I’m glad I’m not going to ruin it for him for once. :D

Mission Accomplished

To rejoice in victory is to delight in killing;
to delight in killing is to have no self-being.
The conduct of war is that of a funeral;
when people are killed, it is a time of mourning.
This is why even victorious battle
should be observed without rejoicing.

If anyone knows of an online, county-by-county popular vote map from this recent election, I would be most grateful if you could link me to it.

Not with a bang but a whimper

The election is over. I wasn’t going to be happy if either Bush or Kerry won, but I’m finding I’m not really upset today either. I’m mostly left with an apathetic tiredness and a cold, empty feeling. The masses are asses. My fellow Americans just don’t care and we will all get what we deserve.

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.
The Hollow Men -T.S. Eliot
