Fuzzy Math
A recent George W. Bush campaign email linked me to this page:
72hr Volunteer Application.
I know my liberal friends will laugh at the militant language of the page, but that’s not what I found funny, er, funniest. This is (emphasis mine):
Quote
A 72 Hour Task Force Volunteer is someone willing to commit at least 5 to 7 (or even more) days of his or her time to the 72 Hour Task Force Volunteer Program.
I went to public schools. I barely passed any math class I’ve ever taken. So help me out here. There is something fuzzy about that math, right?

Hmmm. I wonder if the “72 Hour” thing means that you should be ready to join up with a 72 hour notice. Sort of like the old “minuteman” concept. I don’t know.
As one of your most lefty friends, I found the language of this thing inoffensive.

Hmmm…not sure. Could be. Or maybe they are just trying to make up important sounding titles to make the underlings feel involved and hoped no one would notice that 5 to 7 days is 120 to 168 hours not 72.
Oh yeah, and what I meant by militant language - it had an indoctrinating sort of tone to it; quite like military training. I didn’t find it offensive either. It just stuck me as funny that people are enchanted, and sometimes spurred to action, by such wording.
