Anniversaries

This year marks ten years since I graduated high school. I have no intention of going to the reunion but it has a been a good excuse to get back in touch with some old friends I’ve not talked to in years. It also got me thinking about all the other milestones I have left in the nearly three decades since the mothership dropped me off here on earth.

The one that stands out the most is that it has been 10 years since my parents got divorced. In retrospect, I realize I did not handle their split up very well and I was very mean to some very nice people in high school because of my homelife. I’m working to mend a few bridges that I burned back then and it’s quite therapeutic.

It has been 10 years since I last did LSD, 7 years for mushrooms, 12 years since I first tried weed, and 15 years since I first drank alcohol to get drunk (dad let me try beer as a kid but that doesn’t count).

It has been 13 years since I lost my virginity.

It has been 3 years since I left Illinois for Savannah.

It has been 13 years since I got my first ‘real’ job (ie- not babysitting)

It has been 8 years since Mike and I first got together (and no plans to let the government interfere in our relationship anytime soon).

It has been 5 years since I graduated college.

It has been a year and a half since I last saw snow (and hopefully that number will just keep growing and growing).

It has been 12 years since I last bounced a check.

It has been 10 years since I last had short hair.

It has been 8 years since I stopped wearing contacts and went back to glasses.

It has been 4 years since I last saw Jimmy Buffett in concert :( (Savannah doesn’t attract many good shows).

It has been 9 years since I moved out on my own for good.

I could probably do this all night, so I’ll just call it quits here. It is rather fun to reflect like this. Where have you been since 1994?

Since 1994? Not much changes in our lives, but we have since moved to our own home on forty acres of wooded land instead of renting a home. Cats have died, and new cats have been adopted. Not much else changes.

Going to a high school reunion sounds like a real waste of time to me. I didn’t enjoy high school; why should I look back on it?
